Windward Sciences works with scientists and sailors to conduct research and monitoring across geographies on a wide variety of ecological and oceanographic questions, while aiming to increase community accessibility to these subjects. This work is currently focused in the Baltic Sea and across the Eastern Pacific.
Some of these ongoing research projects include investigating biodiversity and evolutionary paradigms in island chains using remote sensing, metagenomics, and field data collection. Read about the Island Microbiome Research Collective here.

Summer Pilot Project, Turku Archipelago Finland, 2025 "... it was a labyrinth of tens of thousands of islands, some as large as Catalina and others barely big enough to land a seagull. Given we hoped to sample islands unaffected by humans, we were sleuthing our way through infrequently transited and unmarked passages" Read more about our sampling effort here (Latitude 38). |
