Mission
Windward Sciences guides and supports emerging scientific questions around ocean-based climate solutions, and works with cross-disciplinary partners to develop and meet climate goals.
We do this with and for the local communities in which we work.

Our Community-Based Work Focuses On:
BLue Carbon
Our work explores the ability for seagrass meadows, mangroves, salt marshes, and seaweed to mitigate climate change. We provide guidance and research support on emerging scientific needs and how these habitats can be incorporated into climate goals and used within carbon markets. |
AQUACULTURE
Aquaculture can alleviate impacts on wild populations, support local communities, and provide ecological co-benefits when done sustainably. We investigate and work with aquaculture operations to build resilience to environmental change. |
Habitat RestorationFrom seagrass meadows to kelp forests to coral reefs, we work with practitioners to understand restoration approaches and natural recovery trajectories. We advise how restoration can be used to support habitat coverage targets and associated and climate goals. |
