Mission
Windward Sciences investigates emerging scientific questions, conducts environmental monitoring, and develops products aimed at understanding and solving pressing environmental issues along the coastline.
We do this with and for the local communities in which we work.
We do this with and for the local communities in which we work.
Our Community-Based Work Focuses On:
BLue Carbon
Our work explores the ability for coastal habitats like seagrass meadows, mangroves, salt marshes, and macroalgae to mitigate climate change through natural carbon sequestration. |
AQUACULTURE
Aquaculture can alleviate impacts on wild populations, support local communities, and provide ecological co-benefits when done sustainably. We investigate the current and future role of aquaculture in building resilience to environmental change. |
Habitat RestorationFrom seagrass meadows to kelp forests to coral reefs, we work with practitioners to understand restoration approaches and natural recovery trajectories. These lessons are then used to inform future habitat coverage and climate goals. |
